Abstract

Research title: meaning of the name of Allaah "Al-Baari'" according to the understanding of interprettors and Arabic linguists, a semantical study to the meaning in the light of the Qur'aanic context.
Objective of the research:
Defining the meaning of "Al-Baari'" according to its position in the Qur'aanic context, mentioning the different opinions of interpreters and linguists with regard to its meaning.
Findings of the research:
Bar' means proportioning and balancing the creation, this is the most accurate meaning of this linguistic root after comparing it to the names "Al-Khaaliq (the Creator)" and "Al-Musawwir (the Fashioner) which accompany it in the holy Qur'aan.
The wisdom behind mentioning "Al-Baari'" between Al-Khaaliq and Al-Misawwir in the holy Qur'aan is as follows; Creation was mentioned before it because it is more general in mening than bar', because it is related to bringing into being the creation which is then proportioned and balanced while fashionation is mentioned after it because it is related to bar' and differs as to forming the creation.
The reason why Moses, may peace be upon him, reminded the disobedient people from among the Children of Israel of the name "Al-Baari'" -as mentioned in verse number 54 of Soorat Al-Baqarah- is that because he was fully aware that bar' is the complete ability of Allaah to form, proportion and balance the creation and then make it in whatever form He wills. It was as if he was warning his nation against the punishment of metamorphosis, which is transforming a creation into a worse form, which happened in reality to the People of Sabbath among them according to verse 65 and the next verses of the same soorah. It is clear that no one is able to change the form of a creation except the One who proportioned it
