The aim of our work is to shed light on one of the main themes in Russian literature – animalism, its properties, trying to comprehend it in contrast to other genres and trends, which are related to the world of animals. Moreover, the paper will discuss various models of animals, considering as an example some of A. Kuprin’s works. To achieve this goal, this study will rely on the critical–literary and descriptive–analytical methods.
Summing up, the paper reached the following conclusions:
1- Animalism is a genre in literature and in art depicting the animal world.
2- A. Kuprin – one of the brightest Russian writers-animalists of the twentieth century. He devoted his work to the image of the animal world like «White poodle», «Emerald», «Silver wolf».
3- Through analyzing these stories, one can note that the writer highlighted in his work the theme of animalism from all sides, discussed through it moral, social, psychological and philosophical issues.
