The goal of this study is to identify the characteristics of the semantic transition of relative adjectives into qualitative ones and to learn the vocabulary interpretation of these units in the explanatory dictionaries of both languages.
Analysis of the material has shown that relative adjectives become qualitative in Russian and Arabic, but this process is becoming more widespread in Russian, as evidenced by the excess of the number of Russian relative adjectives over the number of Arabic. In addition, the formation of the relative adjectives themselves in Russian is more productive than in Arabic. This is manifested in a considerable number of Russian relative adjectives that have no analogues in Arabic, and in the complete absence of Arab possessive adjectives, which are replaced by genitive case.
