The present study tackles refuting the grammatical opinion in light of reasons for argumentation and its techniques. It aims at clarifying one of these reasons: al-’iftirâḍ. It also aims at pinpointing the techniques of argumentation as represented in quasi-logical claims and other tools in grammatical discourse. The study adopts a descriptive, analytical approach that relies on induction. The conclusions reached include: Al-’iftirâḍ constituted a convincing argumentative reason in refuting grammatical opinions via including and testing all possible aspects. Also, to refute a grammatical opinion, grammarians relied on a large number of quasi-argumentative claims that were influential in conviction. The study also showed that the foundations of Arabic grammar represented argumentative techniques that established a new form of structures or were established on structures that had existed earlier.
