Abstract

The main aim of this work is to determine the pragma-discursive functions of euphemisms by treating five of the topics that are considered taboo and looking for their linguistic alternatives that help to maintain contact between the interlocutors. These themes are death, diseases, professions, education and profanities. The hypothesis on which the work is based focuses on the possibility of finding more euphemistic functions, more ways of speech acts and more expressions that are used in Spanish to replace these taboos. The methodology according to which the work is developed is the analytical-descriptive one that focuses on the description and analysis of the occurrences collected from the corpus of the work.
