Ba jin's Garden of Repose is a transitional point in-text subject and narration methods in modern literature. It is different from all novels in modern literature.
This research focuses on the changes that this novel did in modern literature, and declares the reasons which made it different from all other modern novels; the novel is different in its narration, its story, the order of the novel's events, and narration composition.
The researcher used a comparative study to compare Qi Yuan and another modern literature novel Lu Xun's Mad Man Diary to declare the changes which Qi Yuan made in modern literature. Tzvetan Todorov's narration theory was used to analyze the novel.
The research results ensure that this novel is a transitional point in modern literature; the author depended on the logical sequential narration with overlapping narration to reflect the story's events.
