Body language idioms in Chinese are called body language chengyu. Although there have been numerous studies on Chinese body language chengyu, most have focused on the listing and statistics of lemmas in dictionaries and textbooks, lacking practical data support. This paper used corpus linguistics’ statistical methods to study the actual usage of body language chengyu, then used parallel corpora to extract the corresponding translations of Chinese body language chengyu and built a body language chengyu learner corpus. This paper aims to investigate how Arabic-speaking Egyptian learners of Chinese understand and translate Chinese body language chengyu, and to give studying advice coupled with translation examples.
