This study deals with the function of diphthongs to demonstrate their impact on the Hebrew word structure. The study contains an introduction and two sections. The introduction investigates the theoretical background of diphthongs and their sections, and the arguments whether they occur in one phonetic syllable or two syllables.
The first section, titled: Semi vowel and its role in diphthongs structure to study the role of short vowel (w, y) in the continual phonetic which form diphthongs so it is looking on terms of place of articulation, characteristics, and phonetic behavior at the Hebrew vocabulary in general. The second part – studies diphthongs and their impact on the Hebrew word structure and examines the descending diphthongs: (iy -ay - uw - aw) and crescendo diphthongs: (yi -yu -ya -wi -wu -wa) and the consequent presence of the phonetic changes reflected on the structural Hebrew vocabulary as well as it deals with Hebrew means to get rid of these diphthongs, which were concentrated in three ways: Reduce diphthongs or shrinking, expand diphthongs or separated, and delete diphthongs.
