Abstract

The caricatures is a text type identified by certain characteristics to be inserted in the “German as foreign language classes” so that the specific, linguistic and intercultural skills of this text type will be taught. The political change in Egypt after January 25, 2011 is the main topic in the selected caricatures. The paper illustrates the intercultural aspects that are presented in the selected caricatures that are published in the German press as they critically reflect the political change in the Arab world, especially in Egypt, and then re-produce it in a satirical, ironic form. The paper is trying to offer and elaborate the exemplary cartoons that were published in German magazines after January 2011 as material in the “German as foreign language classes” to provide students with different language and intercultural competencies. The caricatures often show a high motivation as well as intercultural potential. The selected drawings will be investigated from a didactic point of view, and a teaching unit with appropriate working sheets will be proposed. In accordance with the approaches of the semiotic analysis, an analysis model is created that can be used in the processing of the teaching material.
