Abstract

We propose to study interrogation in the thriller The Truth about Harry Quebert's Affair, written by Joel Dicker in 2012 and dealing with the murder of a young woman. Our problem is to study the role of interrogation in the deciphering of the crime, from the enunciative and argumentative point of view.
Concerning enunciation, every statement represents a speech act establishing a certain relationship between the speaker and the addressee. Our analysis will consist in identifying the occurrences of questions, determining the context of enunciation as well as the relationship between speaker and addressee.
Moreover, we propose to study the three main pillars of argumentation: ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is the image that the speaker traces of himself through his speech. The pathos concerns the emotions of the audience. For logos, we examine the types of questions in the inquiry in order to seek the truth.
