Difficulties of Saudi learners reading German Texts

Abstract

This research deals with the problems of Saudi students who study German as a second foreign language with prior knowledge A2.2. The research addresses the two biggest problems facing students, which are the reading and understanding texts. It also presents an attempt to analyze the reading process in its dimension as an objective skill, i.e. in its primary role in extracting information. Besides this role that reading plays in everyday life.
The research follows the comparative analytical approach and aims to track the effect of the Arabic language as the mother tongue of Saudi learners on learning the reading and understanding texts of German as a second foreign language. In the applied part, a group of students are assigned to read texts from the book "Menschen A2.2", which is taught by students in the fifth level of the German language program at King Saud University They read the texts and answer the Questions that the researcher can compare them, extract recurring problem and analyze their causes. Then the students solve questions on these texts so that the researcher measures the extent of students' understanding of these texts, analyzes reading problems, and proposes appropriate reading strategies to solve these problems.
