On the problematic basis of research methodology in Translation-------Around the dispute between "Linguistics" and "Translatology"

Abstract

The main topic of this thesis takes as its focal point the fundamental problem of creating a scientific basis for Translation Studies, from the point of view of the dispute between conceptual theories of translation and the conventional pragmatic approach to translation, according to the linguistc field of study. The general analysis in this paper aims at reviewing the conceptual framework of translation studies under the restriction needed to provide a scientific status for its content. The researcher porposes a matrix of thoughts through which the inherent characterisics of translations could be viewd from a well-established theoretical standpoint. Finally, the thesis is hoped to give insights into building a scientific concept for translation taking as its leading methodological tools the "Hypothetco deductive method" according to its definition in the "philosophy of Science".
