Discourse is the language that people speak or write; discourse markers are a common discourse phenomenon in spoken and written texts. Discourse markers have become a hot topic in pragmatics research. The pragmatic meaning of discourse markers in Chinese texts has received great attention from scholars.
As verbal expressions, discourse markers are a means of connecting words, sentences, phrases, paragraphs, and even different ideas; discourse markers help organize the structure of sentences and make discourse coherent. Discourse markers have many functions, such as explanation, warning and summary, etc.
In order to clarify the role of discourse markers in discourse cohesion, this article uses pragmatic research as a research method, aiming to observe the types and functions of discourse markers in the "BCC Corpus". It is worth mentioning that the "BCC Corpus" contains many written discourses commonly used in various fields, so the study of discourse markers has important theoretical and practical value
