This research examines the dialectical relationship between poetry and the historical circumstances that surrounded it, which motivated the poet to create it. The research argues that such examination can provide important indicators that help rationalize critical judgements.
To prove the validity of this hypothesis, the research carefully examines one of al-Hasan bin Hani's (Abu Nuwas) poems, which he said in praising al- Fadl bin Yahya al- Barmaki during mistserious and vague historical events, full of apparent and hidden stormy temptations. This poem was subjected to evaluation by some prominent classical Arab critics; such as: ibn Tabatiba al- Alawi, abu Hilal al- Askari and ibn Rashiq al- Qayrawani. This study attempts to reconsider their critical judgements in accordance with the historical events that attached to it.
