Abstract

The research aims to conduct a comparative analysis of L.Tolstoy's "Ivan Ilyich's death" and N.Mahfouz's "Respected Sir" to study the authors' perspectives on the issue of career advancement, the ambitions of the protagonists, and the cost of this success. Therefore, the following tasks need to be implemented: shedding light on the key points of the protagonists' career paths, evaluating the effects of professional success on their personal relationships and family lives, and analyzing the artistic techniques employed. This study will rely on the comparative and critical analytical methods. Both works confirm the protagonists' desire for career advancement, as they strive diligently to develop their personal capabilities. On the other hand, the impact of the protagonists' ambitions for professional success on spouse selection and family building will be explored. Additionally, the protagonists experience feelings of loneliness during their journey towards success in a society lacking genuine relationships.
