This study starts from the hypothesis that any writer always has his sights set on a model reader in his mind. It highlights the importance of the reader as an active participant in the communication process, focusing on the implied reader and his contribution to the communication trio: the author, the reader, and the text, making use of mechanisms linked to Wolfgang Iser's theory of reception as its basic theoretical ground, which has become a new level of the development of literature criticism.
This study discusses the communicative role of the receiver in “With Others” by Anis Mansour, concentrating on the dialogue mechanisms and their interaction with the implied reader through linguistic features that establish his presence within the text. Additionally, it deals with the active role of textual gaps in producing meaning in conjunction with the reader and his reading background.
