Abstract

This article studies the main linguistic aspects of national minority discourse, especially those aspects that reflect a conflict between their national constants and the necessities of their political reality.
The study follows the perspective of Discourse Analysis and makes use of some concepts of cognitive semantics.
It examines the label the Kurds define themselves by in Arabic, the concept of "Kurdish people" employed in the selected examples of the discourse and the discursive methods of “self” and “other” representation.
