The technique of pictorial representation and giving utmost care to the small details are considered important characteristics of Gianna Manzini’s works. This technique can be clearly detected through how he portrays his characters so that the reader can always remember it as a picture, in an attempt to stabilize the features of that character in a world dominated by symbolism.
The researcher aims at examining and tracing this feature: The Portrait of that who’s Standing on his Feet 1971 and On The Thresholds 1973. In the former, she manages to draw a picture of her late father, his character, his long political struggle.
The second novel, On the Thresholds, is an imaginary trip on a train with the dead mother. Through the dialogue, all the details that didn’t seem important at the time, help draw a concrete picture of the mother on both the psychological and physical levels. The writer depends mainly on memories, description and symbolism.
